| Kalamazoo Mill
The GPI paper mill in Kalamazoo, Michigan, produces
about 940 tons per day of clay-coated recycled boxboard on its two
machines. All grades and calipers are 100% recycled content with a
minimum of 35% post-consumer waste, and include PaceSetter®
newsback, whiteback, and blister board.
Kalamazoo’s #1 paper machine is a state-of-the-art, three-ply
Fourdrinier with exceptional cleaning equipment. Originally constructed
in 1947, it was rebuilt in 1992 to become the most productive and
consistent CRB machine in North America. This Fourdrinier has an
extremely level formation profile – much like virgin bleached
board – that contributes to its clean, efficient printing
press speeds. It has a capacity of 685 tons per day.
Kalamazoo’s #3 paper machine is a 7-ply cylinder former,
originally installed in 1938, that produces 255 tons per day. Its 100%
newsback liner has exceptional directional stiffness. The
mill’s converting facility has a polyethylene extruder, waxer
and laminator, and produces specialty applications like Maravac (bacon
board), polycoated recycled board, and the lamination of metallized
film to board, among many other products.
