GPI purchased the paper mill in
Macon, GA, in 1992 to serve the phenomenal demand for our products. The
Macon mill is located in central Georgia, 70 miles south of Atlanta.
About $600 million was invested to purchase the mill and convert the
mill’s two paper machines from linerboard to coated board.
The Macon mill has allowed GPI to sell an additional 500,000 tons of
Omni-Kote® folding cartonboard and Aqua-Kote®
carrierboard to the global boxboard market.
We
converted the mill’s #1 paper machine into one of the largest
and most technologically advanced coated board machines in the world.
It produces Omni-Kote®, a lightweight three-ply folding carton
sheet with superior printing qualities. Macon’s #2 machine
was installed in 1980
as a linerboard machine, then converted to coated board in 1997. Today,
this machine can produce up to 750 tons per day of two-ply caliper
Aqua-Kote® carrierboard.
