Steve Scherger named CFO of the Year by Atlanta Business Chronicle

Graphic Packaging International is proud to announce that Steve Scherger, EVP and CFO, has been named CFO of the Year by the Atlanta Business Chronicle in the Large Public Company category.

The CFO of the Year event annually brings together CFOs from across Atlanta, a global enterprise hub that is home to some of the world’s largest companies. Steve’s commendation at the event is a testament to the passion, drive, and commitment to excellence that he has embodied throughout his more than decade-long career with the Company.

Overseeing success – in numbers

Steve is a key member of the senior leadership team, overseeing a total of 20 acquisitions since his promotion to the CFO position in 2015. Notably, these include International Paper’s Consumer Packaging Division and Europe-based AR Packaging, alongside two transformational capital investments including building a recycled paperboard mill in Waco, Texas. As a result, he has helped to drive significant growth, putting the Company on the path to exceed its Vision 2025 financial goals earlier than expected, with revenue increasing from approximately $4 billion in 2014 to $9.4 billion in 2022.

A DE&I champion

Steve is passionate about the values of diversity, equity and inclusion that are at the heart of the Company. He has actively recruited and promoted diverse talent, with 50percent of his team now comprised of women. He also provides opportunities to Graphic Packaging team members across the world through his sponsorship of the Black Employee Global Network.

A passion for service

Steve has a proud history of giving back, both to the business community and to local causes. While chairman of United Way of Greater Atlanta, he raised more than $4 million through Graphic Packaging’s giving campaign. He continues to serve on the boards of several organizations, including Junior Achievement of Georgia, Multi-Color Corporation, Paperboard Packaging Council (past chairman), and the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business CFO Roundtable.

Elizabeth Spence, EVP, human resources at Graphic Packaging, welcomed the news, saying, “You might know Graphic Packaging as the leading fiber-based sustainable consumer packaging company, but behind that reputation for excellence is a team of passionate, creative people who embody our company values. As our EVP and CFO, Steve is one of the standard-bearers for Graphic Packaging and we’re delighted to see him get the recognition he deserves for his tireless efforts to drive us forward.”
